About this database. These abstracts were drawn from roughly 18,000 pages of handwritten Orange County Deed Books, Will Books, and the Bills of Sale collection at the State Archives in Raleigh. Spelling, phonetic names, and uncertain readings are preserved as abstracted. Search by the name of an enslaved person or by the name of an enslaver (buyer or seller).
